Typhonodorum lindleyanum is an aquatic plant endemic to northeast Madagascar. The plants grow to about 2 meters in height and are striking feature plants in ponds and small streams. They are fairly cold hardy as evidenced by the Pretoria Botanical Garden growing a superb specimen in the open.
Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) flowers are symbolic to perpetual life in Buddhism. The delicate pink flowers have a haunting fragrance. When the petals fall, a prominent flat-topped receptacle bearing edible seeds remains.

Red and green Alligator Flags (Thalia geniculate) originally from the Everglades in Florida, USA. If an alligator is nearby the plant leaves move and indicate an alligators presence. Very attractive plant as a water feature.
